R.I.P. Teal and Hello Curb Appeal

The time has come!  After about a year and a couple months, I have FINALLY decided to roll up my sleeves and tackle the teal.

If you were familiar with Rob and I enough during August 2016, you would know that we bought our first house with starry-eyed plans to get rid of the teal color right away.  And here I am just over a year later getting the job done {AT LAST}!

It was one of the first things on our list of “to-do’s” when we bought the house, but meetings with siding companies and dreams of getting new siding put the change on hold.  We ultimately decided to paint the trim, until we are ready to get new siding.

I wanted to go for something that matched the colors we already had in place so I decided to try and find something close to the color of the lights at the front door.  Since I knew the beige and dark brown already matched enough for our liking.

The teal was an oil-based paint, so I roughed it up with a mouse sander and a sanding sponge.  My goal was to remove the shinny layer of the paint so the new paint would adhere as best as possible.  After roughing it up, I used the Grime Boss wipes at Home Depot to remove any dust or debris before applying the new paint.  We love Grime Wipes in our house – they are great for cleaning up paint or any other difficult to remove items, but they are safe to use on any surface because they don’t gouge or scratch.  Plus they’re gentle enough to use on your skin!  [I should get paid to advertise for them, for real.]

I used a latex paint – you can paint latex over oil based paint, however you CANNOT paint oil over anything other than oil – FYI.

I used Behr Ultra Exterior paint in Espresso Beans.  The difference is night and day.  It will definitely hold us over until we get new siding!

The difference still blows me away.  I like to think the color change makes our house look more mature. 🙂
